NADEOSA 10th Anniversary Conference 2006
The conference took place at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria on the 23rd and 24th August.

Abstracts Booklet
The conference theme was:
Celebrating 10 years of Nadeosa. Exploring the role of ICTs in addressing
educational needs: identifying the myths and the miracles.
The conference aimed to help delegates gain insight into
how to find a middle ground between two extremes with regard to the integration
of ICTs into our DEOL and mixed mode delivery offerings:
Extreme 1: This is the position that argues that the latest
generations of ICTs are a panacea for all the problems facing education.
Extreme 2: This is the position that argues that since the
majority of students do not have access to advanced ICTs and probably will not
have in the foreseeable future, programme designers should ignore the potential
of ICTs altogether when designing their programmes.
All abstracts were externally refereed. 15 or
so papers presented at the conference will form the basis of a special edition
of The South African Journal of Higher Education, a refereed, subsidy-bearing journal.
The conference theme explored through the following five sub-themes:
-
ICTs and education: exploring the roles of ICTs generally
-
ICTs for education in Africa
-
ICTs for effective management of education systems
-
ICTs for curriculum design and development
-
ICTs for curriculum delivery.
